Response 2:Thanks! These are actually pretty easy with some practice. Barrel racing is also completely predictable so you can set up for a particular part of their run. I usually shoot at a high shutter speed when they're going around the barrels (although shooting at 20-30 when they're turning is pretty cool, too.) And, then I lower the shutter speed to about 20-30 and pan them when they are on their final run. Learned how to really do this in a class from Doug Steakley here at BP.com

Lovely image.
I like how the lighting is on and filtering through this tree. Great bit of luck having that sun break out.

Still learning in camera blurs... this is cool... how did you do this?
- Sherran Andersen

See Sherran 's Basic BetterPholio™

Response 1:Hi Sherran,

Well, it started by observing people exiting the train and a thought came to me on how cool it would be to capture the movement. Movement was the key factor. Sat on a bench opposite the train door and counted the # of seconds it took for the people to reach two feet from the bench. Used manual focus set it to 2 seconds and at f/8. Just my luck at the end of two seconds the girl in red stopped. Pre-focused to 2 ft away. Braced the camera between my knees and estimated where to point the camera. Have fun with camera blur there great to take.

I love this image with its tilted lines, color and impression of fluidity. I'm wondering if the distinctive look of the colors and tone are the result of an effect filter such as pastel or watercolor?
