I have reworked a favorite from last Fall - Attempting to illustrate the transition of seasons from Fall to Winter as we approach that time of the year (in the Northern Hemisphere)! This was taken at the Japanese Gardens in Fort Worth Texas.

Response 1:Thank you, Kathleen! I just purchased Topaz filters and am having fun experimenting. It was a beautiful sunrise but I intensified the colour with a Topaz adjust filter.

Very cool - what effect did you use for this? Some type of plug-in or Photoshop?
- Michelle T. Hekle

Response 1:Michelle: The HDR effect came from the program Photomatix. I think you can download a trial version from their website. Better Photo offers an HDR class, and that is where I discovered Photomatix. I use Aperture and Photomatix appears as a plugin when you install it. The diffusion filter is part of Tiffen dfx. About a zillion different filter effects.

My first attempt at combining a flower (gerber daisy) with grunge textures
Special thanks to BP member, Linda Lester, for her suggestion to add more contrast to the underside of the daisy. Her suggestion was incorporated into this version.

Good morning, Robert;
This image immediately captured my attention. I enjoy viewing grunge images, each one is so unique. This is very artistic rendering and I like it.

My son seems to really enjoy posing for me whenever I ask. In this shot, we were sitting in a restaurant and he was looking exceptionally cute. I had my LensBaby Composer lens on my camera and grabbed a few shots (which he wanted to see immediately). I then added a series of textures in PS5 to create the ghostly effect.

Response 1:Thank you for the wonderful comments, Michelle.

I didn't have enough space in the description area to explain the "how-to's." So here it is (skipping the basics in PS5 and Lightroom3):

- First - I used my LensBaby Composer to create the shallow DoF with an F/8 aperture; lens bent to the right.

- added two textures from the "Summer Painterly" collection that I purchased from Flypaper Textures.
- texture 1: "Elyon Grunge"
- Soft light layer at 60% opacity
- added mask and removed layer from face
- texture 2: "Sahara Saddle"
- Multiply layer at 21% opacity
- added mask and removed layer from face
- Added "Clarity" from Topaz 4 to sharpen the textures

- Added a 3rd texture that I created myself from the ceiling of the restaurant where I took this shot. Used "Liquify" to morph the ceiling into the lines that you see throughout the shot
- Left texture OVER the face (where I had removed the other textures from it via layer masks).
- Overlay mask with FILL (not Opacity) at 54%
- Sharpened the overall picture with Unsharp Mask (18% amount; Radius 0.9 pixels; Threshold 0 levels)
- Cropped to taste
- Sent the whole process through Scripts "Image Processor to create the JPG from the PSD.
- Finished
