Response 1:Thank you, Kitty. I put this in my top 40 of all-time favorites. I photographed it on a recent photo tour I led to Ireland.

Note from the Editor: Here are more details on this amazing image - from Jim Z's photo blog:

"This stunning row of trees forms an eerie tunnel-like structure over a country road north of Belfast. It's locally called Dark Hedges, and I used a 200mm telephoto lens to compress the myriad branches lit by a setting sun. I used f/32 because it was important to show the entire image, from front to back, tack sharp.
"A tripod was required because it allowed me the ability to shoot with a small lens aperture, and I used the self-timer to trip the shutter. I also locked up the mirror to make sure the camera was as vibration-free as possible. This is certainly one of th e most amazing roads I've ever seen."

Response 2:Thanks Michelle and Gina for your nice comments.
I submitted this last year and it didn't fare well but I thought I'd give it another try.

This photo is an example of "conceptual photography", in which an idea or concept is first envisioned in the mind's eye.
The logistics and technical mechanics are then planned and implemented in an attempt to realize the artist's vision.

Technically, this was a relatively easy photo to create. It was a simple matter of stopping down the aperture on my macro lens and metering for the brighter background, then using a hand-held strobe to illuminate the subject. Logistically though, the greatest challenge was finding a suitable location and "model" (...and then trying to coerse an energetic and confused mantis into sitting still long enough to get the shot).
