Digital Darkroom #87 - Online Courses! Get Certified! HDR Tips; Photoshop Plug-ins; Discussions

The Digital Darkroom - Free Monthly Newsletter for Digital Photographers

Welcome to the 87th issue of the Digital Darkroom

Hi

At BetterPhoto, we believe that absolutely anyone can learn to master photography and the digital darkroom. And our online school will show you how! These courses offer personal interaction with top professionals. The next school session kicks off July 7th, but if you enroll in any class, you can get started today with an early lesson. See the school schedule...

By the way, if you are considering a digital darkroom course, be sure to check the specific course's requirements, since many Photoshop classes are also open to Elements users.

In this issue of Digital Darkroom, don't forget to check out the Featured Article (Jim Zuckerman's "take" on HDR) and Featured Blog (Deborah Sandidge's thoughts on Photoshop plug-ins).

Also, if you have a few minutes, stop by Team BetterPhoto for lots of interesting thoughts, tidbits, and tips from BP team members.

That's it for now. Have a great month, and enjoy your photography!

Thanks, Merns and Chris. There is nothing very exciting in what I did with this. I shot this kneeling down. The only I did Post-production was select the BG then paint it black and used one of the filters in Topaz adjust4. I am uploading the original.

Response 1:Thank you so much, Michelle. Your response means a lot to me. As I said, it is a new venture for me. I had to try it, before the hype about this kind of manipulation runs out again.

Response 2:The whole thing is a new experience for me too, Christine. I must say that I love what you've accomplished here. The texture is perfect for the subject, the composition is great, and the color palette is so appealing. Nice work.

I went to a car show in a near by town and the cars were slowly cruising the streets. I stepped into the street to try and create depth by using a wide-angle lense. I wanted to create more focus on the cars' depth, so I used selective coloring.

Lion Cub Reflection
We had been at this location the day before and I asked the driver to stop by this small puddle, hoping a lion would come for a drink. We were pleasantly surprised when three lion cubs stopped at once for a drink. The reflection is enhanced in Photoshop.

Did you use a FlamingPear Flood plug-in to enhance the reflection in the water?
To me, it looks like there is a narrow area of water, and a reflection ... like the Flood plug-in may have been used.

Response 1:Yes, this was done with flood. There was a pool of water but it was fairly small so I made it larger.
