Getting out of the middle is the number one challenge that many photographers face, says BetterPhoto instructor Rob Sheppard. Whenever anything is centered - whether that is a flower, a bird or a horizon - the image is immediately restricted in its ability to affect a viewer (that is not to say one can never do a centered composition, but that needs to be very deliberate and carefully done).
