New Photo Discussion 3: 19903
- Andrea M. Stenger See Andrea's Basic BetterPholio™ Visit ihopephotography.com - Andrea's Deluxe BetterPholio™ Response 1:Thank you, Andrea. I took this during my photo tour to Costa Rica. I tried very hard to get this bird because I thought it was so beautiful. It was taken with my 500mm, plus the 1.4x, equaling 700mm. Jim
New Photo Discussion 4: Great Blue Heron Study
- John Rivera See John's Basic BetterPholio™ Response 1:Thank you, John. This young bird was playing in a small pond in the midst of a large nesting area. A large GBH feather was his toy and he'd stab at it as if fishing then toss it into the air only to do it again. He did manage to catch a small turtle as an appetizer. I had time to add the 2X extender on the f/2.8L 300mm lens yielding fairly good detail. - Dick Jenkins Visit jenkinsphotography.org - Dick's Deluxe BetterPholio™ Read this discussion online Respond to this discussion
New Photo Discussion 5: Dew at Sunrise1
- Donna R. Moratelli See Donna's Basic BetterPholio™ Visit DonnaraePhotography.com - Donna's Deluxe BetterPholio™ Response 1:Hi Donna, Thanks so much for the nice note - glad you like it! Kerry Notes on the Photography: For this image, I chose a wide aperture (f/4.8). When shooting a macro scene with the sun right at the horizon, the wider aperture keeps the sun large in the frame – which I liked. A small aperture (say, f/16 or f/22) would make for a greater depth of field (more things in sharp focus), but the stopping-down of the lens makes the sun much smaller in the frame – not the effect I wanted in this case. So I went with the large aperture. With shallow DOFs, focusing is crucial, so I made sure the lens set the focus on what I chose as the most important area - the biggest and brightest dewdrops in front of the sun.
